GREAT FAMILY DOG. Rumi, a 10-month-old red heeler mix pup (possibly mixed with pointer), is outgoing, playful and smart. She recently spent a week in a foster home and quickly learned several new commands, so she’s eminently trainable with a little patience, consistency and reinforcement. Her foster home has a toddler, and she was very gentle with the little girl. She was also curious about, but respectful with, their baby chicks, so we’re pretty sure she would be okay with a cat. Other dogs? Definitely! Rumi loves to play-wrestle and enthusiastically greets every new dog she meets, so another family dog would be a plus. Rumi is crate trained and doing well with house training. She’s also getting the hang of leash walking but needs reinforcement on this as well as other desirable behaviors like “come,” “sit,” “wait” and “stay.” She can be independent at times, so a firm but gentle approach to training is the way to go. We also want an adopter with a fenced yard because Rumi loves to be outdoors racing and chasing, especially with a canine friend. She’s still a puppy, so expect some puppy behaviors and be prepared to spend time introducing her to new places, people and situations. Rumi is up to date on vaccines, spayed and heartworm-negative.
