Yellow Labrador Retriever / Plott Hound (short coat) : : Male (not neutered, but will be before adoption) : : Baby : : Medium
CUTE AS A BUTTON! This beautiful brindle boy is GABE, one of five puppies found living with their mom at an empty house. Our vet says they were likely born in late February. Their mother is a yellow lab/lab mix, but it appears they all had different dads. We’re guessing Gabe’s dad was a Plott hound. These pups were unsocialized at intake because they had had no prior human contact. They are still somewhat shy with us and wary of strangers but will warm up quickly with love and handling. We’re looking to place them with adopters who have LOTS of time to spend with them during these next few crucial months in their development -- someone who works remotely from home, is retired or who is a nonworking/stay-at-home spouse. With lots of cuddling, play and exposure to new people and places, Gabe and his siblings are young enough to become confident and outgoing within a matter of weeks. Having another adult dog is also helpful at socializing pups at this age, but young children (under 9 or 10) may be intimidating to them. Adopters will need to purchase or erect a small pen (no bigger than 10’ x 10’) for outdoor exercise until they become more outgoing and willing to come to their adopters in a larger fenced yard. Gabe has had his first two puppy shots (DAPP), multiple wormings and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $175. For more information or an application, email Save the Strays.
