THE PERFECT DOG? If not, DEX is pretty close to it. This 18-month-old Australian shepherd is friendly, gentle and quiet; loves people and other dogs, and is well behaved in the house. Dex kennels up on request, but he hasn’t shown any destructive tendencies and seems to be house trained, so he really doesn’t need to be crated. He’s also good on leash, so he’ll make a great walking companion. Dex is neutered, up to date on vaccines and in good health. Although he did test positive for heartworms, he is grade 1/asymptomatic, so our vet recommended using one of several “slow kill” methods, rather than the immiticide injections. We will gladly discuss what he told us and provide some articles to explain the various options for dealing with heartworms, including injections.
