Labrador Retriever (short coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : Medium
This gorgeous, 2-year-old black lab is DARBY. Although she’s technically an adult, Darby still has a bit of puppy in her. She’s energetic, playful and a bit mischievous, but affectionate and gentle, as well. For those who aren’t familiar with Labrador retrievers, they’re one of the most popular breeds in the U.S. because their good dispositions and loyalty to their humans make them such wonderful family dogs and companions. Darby is no exception; she’s ready to return all the love her adopters can give her. This great gal is crate- and leash-trained and seems to be house-trained. Darby had a thorough vet exam and got a good health report, but she did test positive for heartworms. Because she doesn’t have any clinical signs, we decided on the “slow kill” method of heartworm treatment, which is not as risky as the immiticide injections and doesn’t require strict crate confinement. She has had 30 days of doxycycline; now she just gets monthly doses of heartworm prevention, like any other dog. For more about heartworm treatments, including the slow kill method, visit www.dogaware.com/articles/wdjheartwormtreatment.html. You can apply for Darby online at www.savethestrays.org or email info@savethestrays.org for our application. Adoption fee $225.
